All Summer in a Day response...

Write a well-organized, well-developed paragraph in response to the following...

What has your own experience and the reading of "All Summer in a Day" shown you about group behavior versus individual behavior?

  1. group behavior has more say in what happens, rather than having one individual having their own input.
    - in the book all the kids gang up on Margot, and they put her in a closet. Margot was explaining what was going to happen, but one voice (Margot) was outdone by the rest of the students.

  2. In my own experience a group has more say and better understanding than an individual, usually. In the book Margot try's to explain what was going on, but her individual act resulted in the outcome of the kids putting her in the closet. If they were a group and discussed it the outcome could of been different.

  3. In my personal experience and from reading "All in a Summer Day" I think the voice of a group has much more say then the voice of a single person. If you look at it as if it's a mob. The group gets all worked up and those feeling bounce off one another making other people worked up and it just turns into a one minded crowd. This is like in the book, theres a leader that has the real original bad thought about Margot. Then the group gets involved and pins her almost against a wall in a way. So this shows that groups have more power then an individual does, at least the individual we read about.

  4. In my experience and from reading " All in a Summer Day" I think a group decision is stronger and more powerful then and Individual decision. But In some cases like Margot the individual is right and the group doesn't want to hear it. So in the case of Margot when you're not in a group you may get locked in a closet. But when the Margot was right about the sun the group was sad because they didn't believe her. So know matter a group or individual both ideas should be consider.

  5. In my experience i found that when you are in a group you end up doing what the leader of the grob wants and as an individual you can make you own choses.Just like in the book margrot was the individual that said the sum woud be out today. But the kids in the group did not want to hear her because they thought she was lying, then the sarted saying mean things to her and when she was crying they stuffed her into a closet and locked the door. but no long after they did that that the rain stoped and then the sun came out. But the sumlight only lasted so long and the kids became sad when they went back to the underground they told the teacher that they locked margrot in the closet and felt bad about it.
So it just goes to show you that you should always choose the path that you wish to choose even if it ment no one wants to listen to the one person that might be right when they have faith in the group.

  6. A group of people is a lot more powerful than just one person. A individual is easly over powered by a group. In a group people start to follow a certain person, in this case was the boy, and do what the leader says even if they do not want to do it. Even though Margot wanted the group of children to stop being mean and was asking them not to put her into the closet, none of them listen, and the group pushed her into the closet anyways because the boy wanted them to. Also none of them would listen to her about the sun coming out that day because they thought she was lying, but she was right and she didn't even get to see the sun because they had already locked her in the closet. This is why people need to make their own choices and not follow others.

  7. A group behavior is more of what everyone wants to do rather than individual behavior is just what one person wants to do - a group have more say and power than one person. In the story the group gangs up on the girl and puts her in the closet and she can't get them to stop because she doesn't have enough power as an individual. And on top of then ganging up on her, she never gets to see the sun. :(
